| The Junior Highs, then and Now I had to get the phone
book out for this as I never can
remember the names.
They are now called Middle Schools. The one's we knew
were:
1)Hocker Grove (they kept their name because they did
not merge with another school).
2)Indian Hills (they kept their name because the school
district wanted to close them due to low enrollment but
the parents in the area fought to keep it open and won).
3)Milburn (is now called Antioch--why? I don't know).
4)Old Mission ( was used for several years by several
different schools who were bussed in while their schools
were being remodeled. With the remodeling done,it has
now been sold to Bishop Miege).
The ones we didn't know:
1)Indian Woods (sits at 9700 Woodson and was Nall Wood,
when ninth grade was moved into the High Schools, some
of two other Junior Highs, Indian Creek and Hillcrest
joined Nall Wood to become Indian Woods).
2)Mission Valley (sits at 8500 Mission Road, was
Meadowbrook but was joined by the rest of Indian Creek
to become Mission Valley).
3)Trailridge (sits at 7500 Quivera, was built for
expanding population in that area and was not affected
by changes).
4)Westridge (sits at 9300 Nieman, was Hillcrest until
joined by Broadmoor to be Westridge).
Broadmoor is now used as a "Technical Center" by the
SMSD.
Indian Creek is now used as a "Technology Center" by the
SMSD.
Hickory Grove Elementary has been torn down and they are
building a new school for the students who can't cope
with the regular school system.
We have a fifth Senior High, SM Northwest.
South of I-435 (which is about 109th street) we have the
Blue Valley School District with three senior highs and
a fourth coming.
Olathe now has three senior highs and a fourth coming.
Desoto is building new schools as it has been over run
with the western growth.
This is all in Johnson County. In the 30's or 40's, J C
Nichols a real estate developer (The Plaza, Prairie
Village and on and on, predicted that Kansas City and
Olathe would one day come together. That has now
happened.
This is probably more information than you wanted but I
am passing this on to the others on line.
